Conference:
Towards an Information Society for the Western Balkans

11 and 12 December 2008
Belgrade, Serbian Chamber of Commerce

The Conference has addressed Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) stakeholders such as leading researchers and experts from academia and industry and representatives of Ministries from the Western Balkan Countries (WBC).

The event represented an opportunity for formulating a coherent strategy and actions for the development of the ICT research environment in the Western Balkans and for the region’s integration in the wider European effort to achieve the Information Society.

The regional ICT research needs, capacities and priorities were discussed as well as the future challenges of the Western Balkan ICT research environment were explored in order to put forward concrete recommendations/actions for enhanced regional ICT research collaboration.

The Conference was co-organised by the two European projects SCORE and WBC-INCO.NET with the support of the European Commission, and hosted by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. WBC-INCO.NET (Coordination of research policies with the Western Balkan countries, www.wbc-inco.net) having just started, aims at contributing to the implementation of the SCORE results at a political level across the region.

110 ICT stakeholders, ICT experts and researchers have participated in the event coming from the Western Balkan region as well as from neighbouring and other EU countries (e.g. Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Greece).
