SCORE ICT WORKSHOPS

Key challenges in the EU – WB ICT research collaboration
and
Future of key ICT research priorities for the WB countries

During the first project phase four common regional ICT research priorities were identified through a consultation process (that involved a broad audience of ICT stakeholders in the Western Balkan region) and were specifically selected on the basis of the countries’ readiness to pursue research & development, in terms of appropriate human resources and infrastructure.

In October 2008 the following research fields:

ICT for Government and eGovernment; ICT for Enterprise and eBusiness; Internet and Broadband technologies; ICT for Learning and eLearning

were addressed by a series of four ICT workshops in the Western Balkan countries participating in the project.

The SCORE ICT workshops have involved appropriate EU and WB speakers with the aim to provide:

  • an overview of the Seventh Framework Programme and of how the WB region’s research priorities match the EU priorities;
  • the state-of-the-art in the selected ICT research fields, comprised of an overview of FP7 and FP6 project research results and presentation of best practices;
  • an overview of key market trends and national policies impacting ICT research in the participating WB country;
  • an overview of key developments, future research orientations and related EU policies, per ICT priority.

Additionally, the workshops were also an opportunity for a public discussion on the overall key barriers in Western Balkan ICT research and recommendations on future EU-WB research collaboration.
